Contact Lens is used to correct refractive error in a same way Glasses do. Contact lenses are used to correct: Myopia (nearsightedness), Hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism (blurred vision due to the shape of the cornea) and Presbyopia (inability to see close up).
